Scientists from Griffith University in Queensland, Austalia, have found evidence that COVID-19 can cause significant long-term brain alterations even long after the infection. They compared MRI brain scans of infected individuals with those who hadn't been infected and found evidence of persisting symptoms. They also observed alterations to brain tissue, suggesting that COVID-19 might leave a silent but permanent effect on the brain.
