Nine months. A complete redesign. Rebuilt from the ground up.

Today we’re thrilled to roll out the new That Covid Life website. We took the time to tear things down and rebuild them with one goal in mind: make the site faster, easier to use, and more useful for you—whether you’re researching COVID-19 or Long COVID, keeping up to date with scientific developments, or just trying to find reliable experiences from the covid-conscious community.

Below is everything you need to know about what changed, what we removed, and why you should sign up for a free account today.

What We Rebuilt

  • Complete redesign — cleaner layout, clearer navigation, a modern look
  • Rebuilt from the ground up — for performance and reliability
  • Streamlined experience — fewer clicks and faster page loads

What’s Improved

Articles Are Public Again

Based on your feedback, article pages are public once more. That means firsthand experiences, guides, and research summaries are easier to share and discover—no login required to read.

Directory Remains Behind Login

The directory—our curated, member-only resource list and practitioner contacts—is still available only to registered users. Keeping the directory behind login helps us protect privacy, manage access, and maintain quality.

Enhanced User Accounts

We’ve redesigned accounts from top to bottom:

  • Faster, more secure sign-up and sign-in experience
  • A cleaner account page so you can manage preferences and profile info easily

Improved Search & Filtering

Finding exactly what you need is now faster:

  • Smarter search ranking and more relevant results
  • Improved filters to narrow by date, topic, or other useful fields (so you spend less time digging and more time reading)

Improved Mobile Support

We rebuilt the front end to be mobile-friendly from the ground up. The site is more responsive, touch-friendly, and pleasant to use on phones and tablets.

Streamlined Experience & Performance

  • Faster page loads
  • More accessible user interface
  • Fewer interruptions between you and the content you came for

Things We Retired (and Why)

After looking at usage, maintenance costs, and how people actually use the site, we made the difficult decision to retire two features:

  • Product reviews — Low engagement and high upkeep made this area hard to sustain. For now, we want to focus on verified resources from the covid-conscious community.
  • Forum — While forums were a valuable experiment, discussion activity migrated to other places and the moderation burden was high. We will explore other ways to foster community conversations in the future.

If you relied on either of these features, please reach out—we can help you find alternatives or export data where possible.

Why Create a Free Account—and Why Now?

We’ll be rolling out new features for registered users only, and you don’t want to miss them. Creating an account is free and it unlocks:

  • Access to the directory (practitioners, clinics, specialized resources)
  • Early access to member-only tools and resources

Creating an account takes a minute, costs nothing, and helps us keep the directory and member features safe and high-quality.

How to Sign Up

  1. Click Sign Up at the top right of the site.
  2. Enter your e-mail and choose a password (we also support social sign-in options).
  3. Verify your e-mail and you’re in—free, instant access to the directory and much more very soon.

If you want help with signing up or have trouble logging in, use the Contact Us link at the bottom of any page. We’ll help you right away.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are existing accounts still valid? A: Yes. If you already have an account, your login should work. If you run into trouble, try resetting your password or contact support.

Q: Why keep the directory behind a login? A: The directory contains private or sensitive information about providers and community members. A member login lets us control access and ensure data is used responsibly.

Q: Will you bring the forum or product reviews back? A: Not right now. We retired those to focus resources. If a clear need emerges and the community wants it, we’ll reconsider future options—but we’ll always prefer lightweight, high-value alternatives that don't compromise site quality.

What’s Next?

We’re not done. Over the coming weeks and months we’ll:

  • Continue rolling out member-only features.
  • Keep polishing mobile and accessibility improvements.
  • Continue listening to your feedback—your input shaped this redesign, and it will guide what comes next.

Thank You!

Nine months was a long haul, but it was worth it! Thank you to everyone who tested the beta, sent feedback, and kept telling us what mattered most. This redesign is for you.

If you haven’t already—create your free account today to access the member directory and be first in line for upcoming features. Check out the new site, poke around on mobile, and tell us what you think.

We built this for people navigating life after governments around the world failed to suppress COVID-19 and fight for public health—and we’re just getting started.
